In Rexburg, you can plan on snow to be on the ground from the middle of November to the end of March. Those who are not used to this usually think they will be confined to there apartment for these months, but this is not so. If you dress warmly there are so many adventures a person can have with snow. With all the snow and the convenience of BYU-Idaho being built on a hill sledding is one of the most fun, inexpensive, and easy to find way to pass the time here in the winter. All that is required for sledding is a hill with snow and an object that slides, which is why this fun pass time is one of the most popular in the city. Many students find enjoyment on hills next to the Taylor building or next to the ice skating rink just south of campus. If you are more of an adrenaline seeker you would enjoy driving to the sand dunes. There the hills are steep and covered with snow.
BYU-Idaho also has an outdoor ice skating rink that the students and permanent residents love. It is open six days a week. Most students like to go on Monday nights as a Family Home Evening activity. On Monday nights you can find groups of all ages enjoying the cold crisp air while skating in circles on rented skates. Be sure you go early though because the line can get pretty long. Renting skates is only three dollars which makes skating easy on the wallet for college students as well. You can also enjoy a nice warm cup of hot chocolate while you are there.
